Help Us Write the Best Weight Loss Book EVER!

CALL FOR HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As I mentioned in a previous entry, we are in the process of writing a book about weight loss. Unlike books in this genre which focus on some catchy or fad subject matter that garners Today Show appearances (Skinny Bitch Diet???, Really???) our book will be reality based and will cover such subjects as the chemical nature of carbohydrate addictions, the basis of stress eating and how to overcome this, childhood obesity, stories of remarkable achievemnet and how they did it, and a number of other topics that are extremely pertinent to achieveing and maintaining weight loss.

One of our chapters is being written by YOU!!! (Sorry if you didn't know this!). One of our chapters is called "SEROTININ PEARLS" This chapter will be bullet-point (actually butterfly point) helpful hints that our patients find help their efforts. Such common-sense things such as "Dont go shopping when you are hungry" to "Keep a picture of yourself at a heavier weight AND a lighter weight on your refrigerator" to "Don't keep high-caloric food sources in your house".

We are asking that YOU send us your helpful hints that have worked well for you. Sharing this with our other readers will helo their efforts and reading theirs will help your.

For those of you submitting 5 or more hints, you get a FREE book at our major book signing event in June AND our many many thanks. In advance , thank you for your help!

A year ago, a few of my co-workers and I got for lunch and, at the end, our boss asked us about our New Year's resolutions. I was very reluctant to volunteer any comments because I never kept any of those personal commitments. However, when my turn came, I thought of my desire to do more exercise, the kind I like - dancing. I promised that I would dance more often. In the back of my mind I wanted to dance to lose weight but I did not dare to call it that way. I started to go to the gym more often during the following months, I kept eating cereal in the morning, lots of vegetables at lunch, no dinner, and cheese and crackers before going to bed. I kept putting weight, especially around my waist. By the middle of the Summer, I saved a newspaper with an ad about the Serotonin-Plus Weight Loss Program. I incubated the idea to call for at least two weeks. I visited the SPdient.com webpage and I got the info I needed to understand the principles of the program. On Friday, August 7, I made my mind. I called Doctor Posner's Office and got an appointment for following Monday. At this point my frustration was monumental. The doctor listened to my story, explained the program, and I enrolled right away. My first weeks were challenging because I had to eat more times than I was used to, drink water as if all the water in the world was going to evaporate, and consequently go the ladies room every two hours. My big challenge was to keep the routine: breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack. God bless the baby carrots that are the easiest snacks to accommodate to morning and afternoon meetings, reading lots of emails, writing reports, and on and on. Some weeks were better than others, two pounds less, one pound, no pounds, two pounds again. Some weeks I could go to my taerobics class two times, others just one time and others none. I kept pretty much constant with my fifteen to twenty-minute daily exercise routine before my shower, mostly for my abs and arms. I could really feel the good effect of the taerobics class twice a week, but not every week was possible to attend twice a week. Going every Saturday to my follow-up appointment was gladly and sadly expected. I wanted to know the truth, how many pounds I had lost during the week, but I had to share my week of adventures with the doctor and the staff. At the end of the twelve weeks, and twenty some pounds less later, I "graduated" from the program. I went home and continued with the Seratonin Multivitamins and the Weight Management Formula and I survived Thanksgiving and Christmas with some detours, especially now at the end of the year with all the parties, food, and desserts. I still have difficulty understanding this math: eat more and lose weight at the same time. This week, I finished the last bottle of multivitamins and weight management formula and I went to the doctor's office again for new ones. In spite of all the detours of the Holidays, I lost a little more than one pound in comparison to the last visit before Thanksgiving.
This year, my New Year's resolutions are more clear: keep losing, exercising, and enjoying my new look, from size 12 to eight!

Water, water, water!

Water is very important, dieting or not! Years ago, while expecting our first child, my ob/gyn told me to drink 6-8 glasses of water a day not only during pregnancy but as a lifelong routine. It is good for your kidneys, your skin, and overall health. So, I have fortunately learned to make water my number one drink of choice! I start with my first cup shortly after rising in the morning and drink another every two to three hours during the day. Usually I have a half liter (size of small Perrier bottle) at each meal... which honestly is not so difficult! People drink super-size sodas with more ounces! And, those caffeinated drinks (which are also diuretic) will make trips to the restroom frequent as well, and are not healthy for you!

The "trouble" with water is that sometimes it can get "boring". To jazz it up I offer the following tips:

In the winter, boil water and add
fresh lemon. Or, have a weak steep herbal tea (caffeine free), like mint, camomile, or ginger.
Try "white coffee", a drink offered
in the Middle East as an alternative to the traditional Turkish coffee: it is a cup of boiled water with a few drops of Orange Blossom water (which can be purchased at Near Eastern grocery shops). It is refreshing, a good digestive, and has a delightful scent (as does Rose water).

Another tasty water drink, is borrowed from the "Flat Stomach Diet", known as Sassy Water. You place the ingredients below in a large container and let it sit overnight in the refrigerator. It is a delightful, refreshing, and healthy drink that equals the 2 L. daily requirement. Try it!

2 liters water
1 tsp freshly grated ginger
1 medium cucumber, peeled and thinly sliced
1 medium lemon, thinly sliced
12 small spearmint leaves

Make drinking water a priority in your life! Happy and healthy New Year 2010!

Snacks, don't skip snacks. I miss snacks during the weekends or Holidays because I start the date later than in the work days and I cannot catch up with all the snacks. I lose less weight when I skip snacks because I tend to eat more during the main meals
