weight loss and appointments

Good morning...just getting off on a tangent here but the Sunday of Labor Day weekend always invoked mixed emotions as a child...the end of a very long summer..impending school with the excitement/trepidation this would brings..getting back to friends in school...football season starting...and...the fact that the Jerry Lewis telethon was on all night...those were the days when all stations basically ended their programming at 12am...fior those of you who remeber, the Star Spangled Banner would play and then the screen would go to some sort of test pattern....Now, the airways are filled of repeat sports highlights and infomercials...

Yesterday I saw several patients who had not been in for several weeks, became distracted in their weight loss efforts, and almost cancelled their appointments for yesterday because of their lack of success the 2 preceeding weeks. This is a strong psychological issue, meaning that although intellectually, the affected person knows that we will not "chastice" or treat the person as a "failure","loser" etc., there is a certain embarrassment factor of "letting us down". In reality, of course no one disappoints us if that person gains weight during the program on any given week. We SO understand the challenges and factors involved, and when a person has a difficult week, that is EXACTLY WHEN we should see that person. The worst thing they can do is cancel that appointment. So, please, if you have had a difficult week, do not feel that you should cancel your appointment , use that week to try to lose the weight you gained and then come back so the scxale will show a better number...youi will deprive yourself of the prescription medication and our support that week, and this support will be helpful for sure.
