Many people reach for high-caloric snack foods when they get bored. Being house-bound on stormy days provided much boredom as we can only take so much Seinfeld, Friends, and at a certain point, Everyone HATES Raymond.
Whether it be a slow day at work, being house-bound by weather or attending to an ill child...it is important that you do not start succumbing to the boredom-induced snacking. Try to NOT have around the house those food sources (popcorn, nuts, etc) that will usually be reached for.
Make use of that dusty exercise equipment in the basement. Have a really good IPOD selection of music ot TV in front of that machine as you work out to make the time go faster.
Also, try to NOT do distracted eating, which means sitting in front of the TV or computer screen with a fod source next to you.

weight loss and fighting boredom
Chicken/vegetables....chicken/vegetables.....tuna fish/salad....BORING!!!
Many people, as they are avoiding the food sources that would be detrimental to their weight loss efforts, feel a huge boredom factor set in. The "fun"foods are no longer part of the plan. High protein/low carb meal plans can become quite mundane.
This weekend we bought a crockpot and it came with a book with many recipes. Many of these recipes did not involve high-caloric foods.
Finding innovative choices for foods is difficult at times, but search for recipes, cook books and other help that may open up some interesting food choices for you, yet allow you to follow your goals to lose weight. If you know of people in your circle of friends or workplace who are similarly trying to lose weight, exchange recipes and ideas. Try to make the effort more fun.
When boredom sets in, we are more apt to stary off course

weight loss and boredom
I hope your Valentine's night was fun. After we saw the movie Australia last nite (great film! and...why is Hugh Jackman NOT the new James Bond....he is sooo much more fitting for the role than Daniel Craig) we found ourselves at Wegmans shopping for a late nite dinner. Restaurants tend to be crowded and not as good on holidays such as Valentines Day, New Years Eve, etc....they tend to rush the meal and food not as good. We found some great steaks, lobster tails and prepared a really fun dinner.
I have not been in that store for a really long time and I forgot how many diffeent and unique itmes they have compared to the regular supermarkets. The point here is that if a person is in a weight losing mode, a place like this offers a wide array of food choices that would make it less "boring" to eat the same "chicken and vegetables" every day. One of the things that makes losing weight very difficult is that the "smart" food choices to enable the weight loss are not "fun" choices. Trying to make the meal preparations fun and different but yet still stay on a course of low caloric foods is difficult. Make it a challenge! Find different foods and let your mind be creative to try to make this more fun and less boring.

weight loss and boredom
Face it....the act of losing weight is not fun. What's fun is the end result...feeling much more energy...looking years younger...getting compliments...getting rid of some medications...all of these are lots of fun...but the journey to get there is not a walk in the park. How can you make this less "boring"? How can you make weight loss NOT seem like sacrifice and deprivation? Let's face reality: giving up fun food sources, alcohol containing drinks etc. is not a very easy/fun activity. Being at a restaurant and watching everyone else reach for the bread, order desserts, have several cocktails etc...this takes away from the "fun".
Here are a few suggestions: keep a list handy with you at all times that outline how your life will change if you lose weight. Remember that the reasons why you want to lose weight are so important to you, that you have sacrificed lots of money and time trying to get there. Are you tired of having to take meds for high cholesterol, hypertension, diabetes? Are you tired of feeling uncomfortable in your clothes? Are you just plain tired all the time? Do you feel unattractive to yourself and others? These are the reasons why you embarked on a weight loss effort....remember them. Come up with some innovative food preparation ideas that are tasty yet not high in calories. Share these with your friends who are also trying to lose weight. Exchange e-mails with each other that are helpful hints of how to make this process of losing weight seem less like an ordeal of sacrifice and deprivation. If you can focus on the reasons as to why you want to lose weight, you will be more apt to make the correct choices and be sucessful in your efforts

eating and boredom
A rainy saturday...events cancelled, activities postponed...lots of home time. Boredom sets in (hey, you can only watch just so many reruns of Friends) and you find yourself wandering over to the fridge to see whats begging to be eaten. Hmmm..how about the Halloween candy that is in your cubbard not opened yet??? Is it calling you by your first name?
Whether it be a snow day, a rainy day or any other adverse weather condition that places us for long periods of time in our homes, we must be careful not to give in to the temptation of treating our boredom with eating high caloric food sources.
If you have exercise equipment in your house, try to use this "down" time for more caloric burn-off. Do not venture over to the refrigerator for snacks in bewteen meals. Certainly, avoid small repetitive food sources such as nuts, popcor, trail mix, etc.
And if you go out to a movie theatre, NO POPCORN!!!
Have a great Saturday
