weight loss and nuuuu yooooork

Hi....sorry for the late posting today...in new york meeting with the company that represents that great body analyzer that we have in the office....

New York is my home town....grew up in queens..medical school in Brooklyn...

very crowded, kind of dirty and I would not want to move back here but really fun to see,

However, I find myself succumbing to what I am constantly writing about in this blog...hot pretzels on the corner, delis with potato knishes and huge sandwiches, Carnegie cheesecake...I am finding myself reaching for these food sources that will definitely add some weight,

It is important to match exercise/activity with food intake so I picked up my exercise....also, I am most definitely planning on a phase 1 type of intake upon my return tomorrow...

Trips to places where the food is really a p;art of the landscape can be treacherous for weight loss efforts....I am living this right now...better go read my own blog yesterday about focus!

weight loss and travel

Yesterday I asked a patient an innocent question about her travel plans this summer and she became a bit teary eyed and told me that she doesn't travel on airplanes because of her weight. She went on to explain that it is very embarrassing to try to fit into one of the coach seats and when the planes are at full capacity, she has people right next to her and she senses their disdain. Therefore, she elects to travel via automobile which of course limits her distances for travel.

The personal sensitivities of being overweight, as this relates to sensing other people's negative reactions, may often result in withdrawal from functions and events. Losing that weight and regaining self confidence and self-esteem will complement your health benefits.

good morning from London

Okay, so this week will be less about revelations about losing weight but more about Guillivers Travel...I mean Posner's travels but let me see if I can find some pertinent points. First of all for all my airline travelers, you must definitely need to bring your foods to the airport because if you rely on the airport food places, calories will pack on. Also, do NOT bring those snack things on the plane like trail mix, nut packs etc...I fould myself mindlessly eating those things by the 5th hour. I can see just fromm the late nite cab ride that Londoners are less weight than americans. But every pub I drove by was full of people drinking huge beers so tonight I will need to ask some random people here their thoughts... I had a steak sanswich at the hotel bar last nite when i arrived and it sucked...maybe this is a contributing issue...the food sucks so people eat less. Also, the dollar here doesnt get you much, so if you want lots of food, you will need to pay lots and lots for it. Not like the good oldbuffet at the Mirage in Vegas! Lots more tomorrow! Also,, thanks to my GREAT staff for allowing me the ability to be here!!! They are seeing patients daily and if you need their help, just call. Also, my cell works here and I am in touch lots of times if anyone has any problems they need my opinion on.

weight loss and the enviroment

Many of my patients have occupations that require them to travel frequently. This means hotels, airports, business dinners, etc. In essence, they feel that they lose control of the environment. When at home, thjey can shop for their food, prepare and plan meals, bring lunch, and have a schedule that is condicive for following all of the elements of our transitional dietary plan. However, when in the airport, the choices become Cinnabons or Sbarros pizza. At the nighttime business meeting, everyone is drinking cocktails. The patients feel that the environment is controlling them.

Reality: The environment will NOT conform to your desire to follow a high protein/low carb dietary plan. YOU need to take control of this environment. At every airport there will be a restaurant where, in fact, you can get a steak, chicken or seafood meal without having to do the Burger King or Sbarros choice. If you get to the airport early enough, you have the time to sit at this retaurant. Consider planning the trip, bringing our approved protein bars as snacks. At the hotel, there is that nice fitness center that requires you to get up 45 minutes earlier to use before your meetings. Take a step back and mentate as to how you can navigate around this difficult environment of travel and still follow the dietary plan that will help you lse the weight you desire. YOU have to adjust to this environment and take control

weight loss and business travel

Many of our patients tell me that when they go on business travel it is very difficult to follow a prudent dietary plan because the food choices are limited. The breakfast consists of almost all carbs, snacks are cakes and donuts and the lunches are sandwiches.

Do not feel embarrassed about asking the conference planners, before the travel, if there could be food sources available for people who are trying to follow a dietary regimen conducive for weight loss. Odds are that over 50% of the people attending these conferences are overweight, and many of them may similarly be frustrated over the lack of "friendly" food sources.

The long term health ramifications of America's obesity epidemic are very worrisome, and all of us, including event planners, need to be sensitive to the fact that not everyone attending these events (word of the day: Grease) are happy to have bagels are cream cheese as the only breakfast option.

Have a great Sunday! Tennis match for me

Weight Loss Random Thoughts

Weekend time...definitely the challenge of the cocktails, cookouts, watermelon and all the other temptations that derail our weight loss efforts. Try to maintain the focus and stay in "the zone".

Had a patient yesterday that travels much and wwas lamenting about the difficulty in maintaining control and focus while on the road. There is no question that being "home" in your own, controlled environment makes it easier but for some people, it is their occupations that will always keep them on the road. (Word of the day: John Travolta) The point here is that the environemnt will NOT adapt to you...you will need to adapt to the enironment. It is difficult and tough, but it is the hard truth. To be successful on the road will require you to reach for the high protein foods, do not get caught up in the businesss happy hours with alcohol. You can still be with everyone, glass in your hand, but make it sparkling water. Always try to remember WHY you want to lose weight. If you can keep those reasons in the forefront of your mind, it is easier to say "no" to thing at are in front of you. Also, every hotel these days has a workout facility. Set that alarm up earlier and get to the gym! It is a great way to wake you up and be more alert for your meetings.

New website is up : www.stresseaterdiet.com THis does NOT replace our weight loss center website: www.spdiet.com This new site was created as a resource to people outside of our area who cannot come to one of our centers. Speaking of which, we do get lots of inquiries from people outside of our area who are interested in our program, but they are too far away. We have started a project to expand our centers to other areas through other physicians. If you know any doctors outside of our area who may have an interest in helping their patients lose weight and at the same time expand their income, please have them contact us. We feel that all physicians out there have overweight patients whose health is in jeopardy, and the doctors are telling their patients to lose weight, but because of a restricted amount of time with each patient, the doctors basically tell them to "eat less and exercise more". The patients then go out to Jennie Craig , buy scam supplements off the internet etc. We would love to show physicians how to really help their patients in a safe and very effective manner.

Weekend plans??? I just hope I do not get dragged to see the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants Picture. I was able to avoid Sex in the City so I will see if I can navigate around this one too!
